Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has reacted to the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a βcriminalβ and recalling his personal ordeal under the late leader’s administration.
In a video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Igboho was seen expressing visible relief and celebration following the announcement of Buhariβs passing on Sunday after a prolonged illness.
βMy people, the criminal Buhari is dead,β Igboho declared, recall the July 1, 2021 raid on his Ibadan residence by the Department of State Services (DSS), which led to fatalities and his eventual flight from Nigeria.
βHe [Buhari] sent DSS and soldiers to my house at midnight to kill me, with the help of a Yoruba traitor,β he alleged.
Igboho used the opportunity to urge Nigerians to reflect on the legacy of public office holders and emphasized the importance of doing good while in power.
The activist, who has been vocal about Yoruba self-determination, has consistently criticized the Buhari administration for what he described as oppression and human rights abuses.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari passed away in London on Sunday and is scheduled for burial in Daura, Katsina State.
