Chiefs’ Charismatic Goalkeeper Coach Confirms Exit

Kaizer Chiefs’ technical team overhaul has continued after highly-rated goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi officially confirmed his departure from the club ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Tunisian mentor becomes the latest member of the Amakhosi bench to leave Naturena following the exits of co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

Mzoughi leaves behind a strong legacy after playing a major role in improving Chiefs’ goalkeeping department during his time at the club. He was widely praised for helping Brandon Petersen rediscover his best form, with the goalkeeper producing several impressive performances throughout the season.

The goalkeeper coach also earned admiration from supporters for his energetic presence on the touchline and his commitment to developing young talent. Fans particularly applauded him after teenage goalkeeper Talakani Mazhamba was handed his senior debut.

His close connection with the Amakhosi faithful made him one of the most popular members of the technical team, making his departure an emotional one for many supporters.

In a heartfelt farewell message, Mzoughi thanked everyone associated with the club.

“Today, I say goodbye with a heart full of gratitude and pride. It has been a great honour and privilege to be part of this big club and this beautiful family,” wrote Mzoughi.

“I want to thank the management, technical staff, players, and especially the supporters for the love, respect, and support you gave me during my journey at the club.”

He also thanked the goalkeepers he worked with during his stay at Naturena.

“To the goalkeepers, thank you for your trust, hard work, and commitment every single day. I am proud of your progress, and I truly believe the future is bright for all of you.”

Mzoughi added that Kaizer Chiefs will always remain close to his heart despite his departure.

His exit signals a complete rebuild of the Chiefs technical team as Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. prepares for a new era at the club ahead of next season.
