If you are a Muslim, let me ask you a question: What action by Nasir el-Rufai has shown his love for the Muslim Ummah this Ramadan, which is the holiest month of the year in the Islamic calendar?
Please fact-check me: Nasir el-Rufai has not made one post celebrating Ramadan, encouraging the faithful, or even inspiring them with a verse from the Quran. Not one. Again, please assume I am lying and fact-check me by going to Nasir el-Rufai’s social media handles.
Instead, since Ramadan began on Ramadan 1, 1446 AH, Nasir el-Rufai has put up or shared posts insulting and attacking the President and his National Security Adviser, and another attacking the incumbent Governor of Kaduna, Senator Uba Sani, and still others visiting various politicians, and finally, yesterday, announcing his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, and his joining the Social Democratic Party.
But not one word about Ramadan, Islam, or God.
A man who is supposed to be fasting and abstaining from haram is busy insulting and partaking in political attacks during Ramadan?
Before you insult me, as a mumin, I ask you, Is that what Islam and prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalaam, teach?
The prophet (PBUH) said
“If any one of you is fasting, let him not utter obscenities or act in an ignorant manner, and if anyone insults him or wants to fight him, let him say, I am fasting.”
Seyi Tinubu, who is half the age of Nasir el-Rufai, has demonstrated that he is a much better friend of Islam than the former Governor of Kaduna.
Since Ramadan began, he has been going around Arewa, ensuring that as many people as possible are supported to fast and break their fast properly.
Is that not what the prophet told the faithful to do?
If a man cannot respect the holiest month in Islam, Ramadan, and instead chooses that precise period of piety and sobriety to start a war, then he will definitely not respect you and the promises he is making to you if he ever finds his way to power.
And as a non-Muslim, ask yourself this question: If el-Rufai, the Butcher of Kaduna, cannot respect his own religion, how can he respect other faiths?
Go ahead and insult me. But can you put your hand on the holy book and say I lied?
If his social media profiles post anything about Ramadan, check the date and time. He posted it after this piece.
