Nigeria: “Ignoramuses Closed Down Schools For Ramadan Fasting, Send Their Children Abroad For Studies”- Sowore

The Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has said those who closed down schools for Ramadan fasting period are ignoramuses.

Ondopress reported that Kebbi, Bauchi, Kano and Katsina closed down schools to allow Muslim students observe the fasting period with ease.

Their action attracted a backlash from Nigerians who lamented that the policy affected non-muslims in those states.

Also, many pointed out that the policy would cause more problems because those states are known to have the largest population of out-of-school children.

Despite the criticisms, the four northern states persisted with the policy.

Reacting, Sowore said the leaders who closed the schools for Ramadan don’t event have children attending such schools.

He shared on X, “The ignoramuses who closed down schools for Ramadan Fasting don’t even send their children to these rundown public schools.

“Their children/wards go to schools abroad or expensive private schools in Abuja where school fees are paid from funds meant for the education of the poor; these schools are never closed for Ramadan Fasting. Wicked People!”

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, has faulted the decision by the four states to shut down schools for Ramadan.

She argued that such practice is not even observed in any Muslim majority country in the world.

“There is no religious basis for shutting down schools during Ramadan. Even in countries like Saudi Arabia, which are recognised as Muslim nations, educational institutions continue to function normally during this period,” Ahmad said.
