The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released a video showing the execution of three Nigerian soldiers in Yobe State, sparking outrage among Nigerians.
The soldiers were reportedly captured in the Kamuya and Azare areas of the state before being shot dead by insurgents.
The video, which surfaced on March 19, 2025, showed the soldiers kneeling in a field and introducing themselves before masked gunmen executed them.
The incident, which occurred on March 15, has reignited concerns over the growing influence of ISWAP in the northeast.
Following the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, the terror group has consolidated its grip in the region, recruiting former Boko Haram fighters and intensifying attacks.
Nigerians have taken to social media to express anger over the killings and the government’s response to insecurity.
An X user, Al’ameen, wrote: “In a sane country, this is enough reason to declare a state of emergency in the entire northeast and wipe out Boko Haram, ISWAP & all terrorist organisations. This should be the topic in our National Assembly (NASS), not Natasha, Rivers, or Fubara. PBAT should declare war on terrorists.”
