The Niger State Police Command has successfully arrested four individuals suspected of being involved in kidnapping activities within the Rijau Local Government Area. Authorities also recovered firearms believed to have been used in their criminal operations.
According to police sources, the arrests were made following a tip-off from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Rijau, who reported the incident on the morning of April 12, 2025, at around 9:00 a.m.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Shehu Mohammed (35) from Tunga Magajiya, Mamman Sani from Conner Shenjiri, Daudu Mohammed (37) from Udu, and Jibrin Ahmodu from Genu. During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered two locally made pistols and a dane gun from the suspects.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in the abduction of Amina Mallam Sarkin-Noma Gatta, a resident of Agwa Gwanda village, in March 2025. Police sources confirmed that the suspects had demanded a ransom of ₦3 million for the release of the victim. However, Amina managed to escape from captivity the following day, later identifying one of the kidnappers.
All four suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime and remain in police custody as investigations continue.
