Police Postpone Protest Against Police Abuse Per Repeal Cyber-crime Act

The Nigeria Police Force has postponed a scheduled meeting with social media activist and TikToker @seaking303, originally planned for Monday, April 21, 2025, over his controversial comments regarding Pastor E.A. Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

The meeting, which was to include the presence of his surety, was deferred due to the Easter Monday public holiday. In agreement with the police, the new date has been fixed for Friday, April 25, 2025.

The activist and his supporters had also planned a protest on Monday against alleged police harassment, under the hashtags #RepealCybercrimeAct and #EgbetokunMustGo, which will now hold on Friday in line with the new schedule.

Concerns have been raised by activists Omoyele Sowore that the choice of a Friday for the police invitation is strategic, with the potential to detain the activist @seaking303 over the weekend.

“I know the trick by the Police in inviting @seaking303 on Friday is to detain him and ensure he’s not free until the following week,” one supporter stated, warning that any infringement on his rights will be “resisted accordingly.”

Despite the rescheduling, organizers maintain that “all actions remain constant”, indicating that the protest and legal resistance will proceed as planned on the new date.

The police had communicated the date change via a message which read:

“I have been directed to inform you that your earlier suggested date being 21/04/2025 has been rescheduled for Friday 25/04/2025. Thanks pls.”

Further developments are expected in the coming days, especially regarding the status of the protest and any official police response to the allegations of intimidation.
