Edo Governor Okpebholo Suspends Uwano Monarch Over Rising Insecurity in Agenebode

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has suspended the traditional ruler of the Uwano Kingdom, Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, following escalating insecurity, including kidnappings and killings, in the Agenebode area of the state.

The suspension, announced on Monday, comes amid growing public concern over the deteriorating security situation in the community, which residents say has disrupted economic activities and endangered lives.

According to a statement from the state government, the action was taken in response to a series of security breaches within the monarch’s domain, with the governor insisting that leadership must be held accountable for the safety and well-being of the people.

The statement did not indicate whether a panel would be set up to investigate the monarch or if the suspension is indefinite.

Dr. Egabor, a respected traditional figure, has yet to issue an official response to the development.

The Uwano Kingdom, with Agenebode as its seat, has in recent months witnessed a surge in abductions and violent crimes, prompting calls for urgent intervention from both state and federal authorities.
