Following the dramatic defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has boldly declared Delta a secured territory for the ruling party.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja after a closed-door session at the APC National Secretariat, Sen. Basiru stated:
“As far as we are concerned, Delta is already locked down for the APC. With today’s movement, we have expanded our structure, strength, and capacity in the South-South. This is not just a defection—it is a realignment of political forces for national development.”
The high-profile defections have sent shockwaves through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has long held sway in Delta State.
With a sitting governor and his predecessor now flying the APC flag, political analysts say the state’s 2027 dynamics could be fundamentally altered.
