The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has finalized preparations to commence the 2025 Hajj operations, with the first airlift of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia scheduled for May 9.
This update was disclosed on Tuesday after a high-level briefing by the NAHCON Board to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Prince Anofi Elegushi, the Commissioner in charge of Operations, Inspectorate & Licensing, assured Nigerians that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth pilgrimage for all participants.
“We have all of our accommodation intact in Makkah, Madinah, and other locations. They are ready to receive our pilgrims. We have secured enough bed spaces and paid for adequate feeding,” Elegushi stated.
He noted that the first batch of pilgrims will be airlifted through Madinah, with the outbound flights expected to conclude by May 24. The return journey is set to begin on June 13 and end by July 2.
“All hands are on deck, and I can assure all Nigerian pilgrims that they are in safe hands,” he added, emphasizing the readiness of both local and international logistics.
According to NAHCON, over 40,000 pilgrims, including state officials and 13,000 individuals from private tour operators, will participate in this year’s pilgrimage.
