Police Warn Against Circulation of Old Videos Aimed at Undermining National Security

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning to members of the public over the resurgence and circulation of outdated videos designed to mislead the public and undermine national security.

In a press statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police expressed deep concern over what it described as a deliberate attempt to discredit the Force through misleading content that no longer reflects current realities.

According to the statement, one of the widely circulated videos depicts a Police Mobile Force (PMF) officer lamenting poor welfare conditions in Yobe State. The NPF clarified that the video is several years old and that the issues raised were addressed through administrative action at the time.

The recirculation of this video is a deliberate attempt to bring the institution into disrepute and create panic in the minds of average Nigerians,” the statement read.

Another video under scrutiny shows an officer from the Counter Terrorism Unit allegedly accusing the government of politicizing banditry and failing to equip officers. The NPF stated that investigations had found those claims to be false, and disciplinary action was taken against the officers involved.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, strongly cautioned Nigerians against spreading falsehoods that could erode public trust and destabilize security efforts. He urged citizens to verify information before sharing and warned those engaged in misinformation to desist immediately.

Such acts not only ridicule the Police institution but also have serious implications for national security,” the IGP noted.

The Police Force reiterated its commitment to improving officer welfare and boosting operational efficiency while reaffirming its resolve to combat all forms of crime across the country.
