
In a colorful and culturally-rooted analogy, Charles Aniagwu, the Delta State Commissioner for Works, has weighed in on the recent defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as both strategic and inevitable.
Speaking during a press briefing in Asaba on Thursday, Aniagwu stated:
“Where I come from, we’re very good at producing palm wine. We’re told by our forefathers that once the taste of the wine changes, it is inevitable that drinking patterns will also change.”
The commissioner explained that the shifting political tides within the state and the national outlook informed the governor’s decision, adding that loyalty to the people’s best interest outweighed partisan sentiment.
Governor Oborevwori’s defection has stirred political debate nationwide, with observers noting the symbolic weight of the move, especially with former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa also reportedly switching camps.
