
A protest staged earlier today at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, targeting the former NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, has sparked public interest and speculation regarding its authenticity.
Former Senator and public affairs commentator, Shehu Sani, who witnessed the protest firsthand, alleged that the demonstration appeared to be orchestrated by vested oil interests unhappy with Kyari’s tenure.
He said on a post he made on his X page yesterday that: “Most of the young guys there don’t actually know what they were protesting about. They just joined,” Sani remarked via his official handle. “It’s clearly a sponsored project by some displeased or disgruntled oil interests against Kyari.”
The protesters were seen wielding placards with inscriptions demanding accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s oil sector, but when engaged, many reportedly lacked knowledge of the issues they were advocating.
The incident raises fresh concerns over the use of paid or uninformed protesters in political and economic disputes, particularly within Nigeria’s volatile energy sector.
