The Kano Station, a key component of the $1.2 billion Kaduna to Kano Railway project, is approaching a major milestone as construction of its main structure nears completion.
Full completion of the station is expected by the fourth quarter of 2025, according to project officials.
Covering over 13,000 square meters, the station includes a central terminal and several additional facilities, making it the largest station along the 202-kilometer Kaduna-Kano railway corridor.
The project, which is part of Nigeria’s broader railway modernization initiative, aims to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic activity in northern Nigeria.
Originally, the Zawachiki railway station in Kano was recognized as Nigeria’s largest train station, rivaling the scale of Lagos’ Ebute Metta station. However, the newly constructed Kano Station is poised to take that title. It is also set to serve as a major transit hub for the upcoming Kano-Katsina rail line and its planned extension to Maradi in the Niger Republic.
Once operational, the station is expected to significantly improve passenger and freight transport in the region, while contributing to cross-border trade and integration with West African rail infrastructure.
