
The District Head of Odugbeho in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, Chief Tony Adejo, has been brutally murdered by suspected armed herdsmen, sparking outrage and sorrow across the state.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, while the traditional ruler was working on his farm in Otobi, located in Otukpo LGA.
Chairman of Agatu LGA, James Ejeh, confirmed the killing during a phone interview with journalists in Makurdi on Thursday.
“I can confirm to you that the District Head of Odugbeho, Chief Tony Adejo, has been killed. He was attacked by armed men while working on his farm at Otobi,” Ejeh stated.
Describing the late Adejo as a dedicated peace builder and respected community leader, Ejeh lamented the loss, noting that his leadership and wisdom would be deeply missed by all.
Despite the gravity of the incident, the Agatu chairman praised the community for remaining calm and not resorting to violence.
“Odugbeho is mourning, but the people have refused to take the law into their hands. Agatu remains peaceful and calm,” he said.
Ejeh advised all Agatu indigenes residing or farming outside their communities to stay security-conscious and work closely with local authorities and security operatives.
“Agatu people in other LGAs must be vigilant and cautious in their movements. It is important they collaborate with local leaders and report any suspicious activities promptly,” he warned..CONTINUE READING
