BREAKING: Ex-Army Chief Tukur Buratai Escapes Assassination Attempt in Borno Gunfire Ambush

Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (retd), narrowly escaped death on Friday after his convoy came under heavy gunfire in Borno State.

Sources confirmed to OndoPress that the ambush occurred while Buratai was travelling through a volatile region of the state. Armed assailants opened fire on his convoy in what security officials are describing as a “targeted attack.”

It remains unclear whether the assailants were bandits or insurgents, but security operatives accompanying the former Army Chief quickly returned fire, repelling the attackers. No casualties have been officially confirmed at the time of this report, though multiple vehicles were reportedly damaged in the assault.

Buratai, who served as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff from 2015 to 2021, is said to be safe and under tight security.

The Nigerian Army and Borno State security authorities are yet to issue official statements. Investigations are ongoing.
