The Federal Government has announced plans to deploy bamboo technology in constructing affordable and durable smart homes for low- and medium-income Nigerians nationwide.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mrs. Esuabana Nko Asanye, during a high-level policy briefing in Abuja.
According to Mrs. Asanye, the bamboo-based housing initiative forms part of the government’s broader push for sustainable building solutions, leveraging local resources and green technology to meet Nigeria’s growing housing demand.
“Bamboo is an eco-friendly, fast-growing, and resilient material. With proper treatment and engineering, it can be a game-changer in delivering cost-effective, smart housing options for Nigerians,” she stated.
She added that the government is collaborating with local and international partners to standardize bamboo processing and construction techniques that align with global best practices.
The smart homes will also integrate renewable energy and digital infrastructure to improve quality of life and reduce energy costs.
