Tragedy struck Konduga town in Borno State on Friday night as a deadly bomb explosion claimed the lives of at least 11 residents and left several others injured in what is being described as the town’s deadliest attack in nearly a year.
The explosion occurred in front of a local cinema, situated adjacent to the bustling Konduga fish market, just 36 kilometres from the state capital, Maiduguri.
Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) confirmed the blast and disclosed that many of the injured victims were rushed to the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos and panic following the blast, with emergency responders and civilians scrambling to evacuate the wounded from the area.
Security forces have since cordoned off the scene, launched investigations, and heightened surveillance across Konduga to prevent further attacks.
This marks the first suicide-related bombing incident in Konduga in nearly 12 months, raising fresh concerns about the resurgence of terrorist activity in the region.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agencies.
