Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, describing the monarch’s passing as a profound loss not only to Ibadan but to the entire Yoruba nation.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor commiserated with his Oyo State counterpart, Governor Seyi Makinde, the government and people of Oyo State, the Olubadan-in-Council, the royal family, and all indigenes of Ibadanland.
“Oba Olakulehin was a revered royal father whose brief reign was defined by dignity, wisdom, and a deep commitment to the progress and unity of his people,” Adeleke said.
“He embodied the finest qualities of Yoruba royalty—leadership, cultural pride, and unwavering love for his community.” He noted
The governor noted that although Oba Olakulehin’s time on the throne was short, it left a lasting impact on the traditional institution of Ibadan and the larger Yoruba heritage.
“His passing at the age of 90 marks the end of an era and the closure of a remarkable chapter in Ibadan’s history,” Adeleke stated. “He will be remembered for his peaceful disposition, selfless service, and dedication to the welfare of his people.”

“Oba Olakulehin remained, until his last days, a symbol of continuity and cultural wisdom,” the Governor said. “His transition is a collective loss to the Yoruba people, whose values and heritage he upheld with honour.”
