Police Rescue Kidnap Victims, Arrest 8, Recover Arms In Nationwide Raids

The Nigeria Police Force has rescued two kidnapped victims and arrested eight suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations across Edo, Delta, Katsina, and Adamawa States.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and made available to The Hope said in Edo State, police operatives, working with local vigilantes, rescued two farmers, Godday Irieude and Wisdom Emeka, who were kidnapped from their farm in the Ewatto area around 1:00 a.m. on June 26, 2025.

The kidnappers, on sighting the police, opened fire, leading to a gun duel and the police, with superior firepower, overpowered the criminals, forcing them to flee with gunshot injuries, while the victims were rescued unhurt.

Also in Delta State, operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a residence in Mosogar where two suspected cultists, Koko Josh (29) and Asomugha Clinton (27), were apprehended.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with two live rounds, two locally made guns, eight live cartridges, several mobile phones, a laptop, and fetish items.

Further investigations reportedly led to the arrest of two more suspects, Anthony Kelvin (26) and Gift Amotsuka (25), identified as members of the Aiye Confraternity.

In another operation in Okpanam, Delta State, police arrested two suspects, Ekene Chroma (36) and Okafor Jonathan (18), who were found with two English-made single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges. Investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in illegal arms dealing and served as couriers for wanted criminals.

 

In Katsina State, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) arrested Yunusa Ishaku (40) in Funtua with two stolen vehicles, a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Camry.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of a vehicle theft syndicate that targets vehicles in Abuja, Jos, and other cities, which are then taken to Niger Republic for resale.

He also provided information that led to the recovery of three additional stolen vehicles in Zamfara and Bauchi States.

In Adamawa State, operatives arrested Alhaji Iya Bima (52) from Kem Shithem Local Government area with an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 50 rounds of live ammunition. Further interrogation led to the recovery of another AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and 50 additional rounds.

All suspects , the Police said will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

According to the statement, ”The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun,reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intensifying intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks across the country.

The Force urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the dedicated emergency lines.
