Arsenal are on the brink of completing a major summer transfer, with reports suggesting the Gunners are close to finalising a deal for Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze.

The 27-year-old England international, one of the Premier League’s standout performers, is expected to move to the Emirates in a deal worth an initial £45 million.

According to CaughtOffside, negotiations between Arsenal and Crystal Palace have progressed significantly, with the two clubs nearing agreement on a fee below Eze’s £68 million release clause. The proposed deal includes performance-based add-ons described as “easily achievable,” which could push the total package closer to Palace’s valuation.

Eze, who scored the winning goal in Palace’s historic FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May, registered 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances last season. His form has drawn interest from several top clubs, including Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool. However, Eze, who was released by Arsenal’s academy at age 13 has made it clear that his heart is set on a return to north London. Sources close to the player claim he “only wants Arsenal.”

The Gunners are structuring the deal to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), favouring staggered payments over an upfront fee. Arsenal are also open to including a player as part of the transfer package, with Crystal Palace reportedly interested in potential options to strengthen their own squad.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made bolstering his attack a key priority this summer, especially after a 2024/25 season that saw injuries to key players like Gabriel Jesus, Martin Ødegaard, and Bukayo Saka. Eze’s versatility, capable of playing as a No. 10, on the flanks, or in central midfield makes him an ideal fit for Arteta’s fluid tactical system.

Sporting director Andrea Berta is understood to have led discussions with Eze’s representatives, and personal terms are expected to be agreed quickly. Reports suggest Eze could double his current wages as part of the move to the Emirates.

Eze’s arrival would mark another significant step in a busy summer for Arsenal. The Gunners have already secured the signings of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea (£5 million), midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad (£51 million), and Brentford captain Christian Nørgaard. Talks also continue for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, with that deal reportedly in its final stages.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Eze has gained momentum after rivals failed to make progress. Manchester City’s interest cooled, Tottenham’s advances were rejected, and Chelsea never submitted a formal offer. Liverpool have been linked but are not believed to be in active talks.

The potential signing of Eze adds to the optimism around Arsenal ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. In addition to targeting marquee players, the Gunners are also securing their young talent, with 18-year-old academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri reportedly close to signing a new long-term contract, according to @SamC_reports on X.

With pre-season preparations underway, Eze’s imminent arrival would underline Arsenal’s intent to challenge for silverware both domestically and in Europe. Arteta’s squad is taking shape with a blend of proven talent and emerging stars, setting the stage for what promises to be a defining season.
