Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revisited some of the bitter lessons from his time in public office, sharing personal reflections during the launch of a new book by former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mohammed Bello Adoke, held in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, El-Rufai recalled the unveiling of his memoir over a decade ago, stating:
“About 12 years ago in this hall, I presented ‘The Accidental Public Servant,’ which was a record of my experience in public service at the time. It showed how friends around you betrayed you and how those you’ve been good to can turn against you.”
His remarks appeared to underline the recurring theme of betrayal and the complex nature of loyalty in Nigerian public life — a reality he says he documented in his own book years prior.
The event brought together several high-profile political figures and legal professionals, as Adoke presented his own narrative and legal memoir, offering insight into his years as Nigeria’s chief law officer.
El-Rufai’s brief but poignant address stirred reflections among attendees on the cost of public service and the unpredictable nature of political alliances.
