The National Assembly has suspended all legislative proceedings until Tuesday, July 22, 2025, as a mark of respect for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
This was disclosed in an official statement issued on Monday by Kamoru Ogunlana, Clerk of the National Assembly.
“I am directed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that all legislative activities are hereby suspended immediately until Tuesday, 22 July, 2025,” the statement read.
The suspension comes in the wake of nationwide mourning following the passing of the former military ruler and two-term democratic president, who played a pivotal role in shaping modern Nigerian politics.
The decision to halt plenary sessions was taken jointly by the leadership of both chambers of the legislature as a tribute to Buhari’s legacy and service to the nation.
