Troops of the Multi National Joint Task Force in Cameroon have arrested a suspected weapons and ammunition trafficker near Makary, a border community close to Lake Chad, officials said on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Abbaka Abba Djidda, 50, was intercepted during a targeted operation following intelligence reports linking him to cross-border arms smuggling networks operating in the Lake Chad basin.
According to a security source, Djidda was found in possession of a cache of illegal arms and ammunition, which authorities believe were intended for distribution to terrorist groups operating in the region.
The Lake Chad region, long plagued by insurgent activities, has witnessed increased security collaboration among countries in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) aimed at combating terrorism, arms trafficking, and other transnational crimes.
