
Tensions flared in Radda Town as residents took to the streets in protest following an altercation between a local man and members of the Katsina State Community Watch (C-Watch).
The incident, which occurred on April 18 at about 4:30 p.m., involved Mustapha Ahmed, 40, who reportedly had a heated dispute with C-Watch operatives. During the confrontation, Ahmed sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Dutsinma. Due to the extent of his condition, he was later referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina for advanced treatment.
In response to the incident, angry youths staged a protest on the morning of April 19, voicing their dissatisfaction over the conduct of the community security group. The demonstrators demanded accountability and called for greater oversight of C-Watch activities in the area.
Security operatives, including local police, swiftly intervened to prevent escalation. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) on the scene addressed the crowd, urging restraint and assuring residents that a thorough investigation was underway.
The Village Head of Radda, Alhaji Kabir Umar Barebari, also stepped in to calm tensions. He pledged to escalate the matter to higher authorities and ensure that justice would be served.
The protest ended peacefully, and no further violence was reported. Authorities have confirmed that the situation is being monitored, and an official inquiry into the incident involving Ahmed and the C-Watch operatives is ongoing. CONTINUE READING
