A prominent socio-political group, the Advocates for Ogun Development and Innovations, has called on Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, to declare interest in the 2027 Ogun State gubernatorial election.
In a statement released Tuesday by the group’s Public Relations Officer, Majeed Adelakun, the organization described Edun as an exceptional technocrat with the experience and vision required to lead the state through a pivotal moment in its development.
“We are calling on Mr. Wale Edun to respond to the call of history by announcing his candidacy for the Ogun State governorship,” the statement read. “As a distinguished finance professional with over four decades of experience across banking, investment, and economic development, Mr. Edun represents a rare blend of technical expertise and visionary leadership that our state urgently needs at this moment of transition.”
Highlighting Edun’s extensive résumé, the group cited his roles as Executive Director at Investment Banking & Trust Company (IBTC), founder of Denham Management Limited, and two-term Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State. His current position as Coordinating Minister of the Economy was also noted as evidence of his capacity to deliver impactful governance.
“His record is not one of promises, but of results,” Adelakun said. “Beyond his sterling professional pedigree, Edun is known for his deep commitment to empowering communities, creating sustainable opportunities, and building prosperity that lasts.”
The group also pointed to Edun’s close relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that his trusted status within the federal government would allow Ogun State to benefit from stronger national collaboration and investment.
“Importantly, Mr. Edun is a long-term loyalist of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His central role in the federal economic team positions him uniquely to synergize Ogun State’s development with national priorities,” the statement continued.
“The time has come for tested and trusted leadership. The time has come for Ogun State to rise,” the group concluded. CONTINUE READING
