Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has dismissed concerns that the newly formed political coalition poses any threat to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, Governor Sani said the emerging political group, which has applied for registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the name All Democratic Alliance (ADA), lacks the capacity to challenge Tinubu or the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I can tell you today, and I want this on record — Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has no threat,” Sani said confidently during the interview.
The Governor’s comments came in reaction to the formation of the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG), spearheaded by former Senate President David Mark. The coalition also includes notable political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers Governor Chibuike Amaechi, and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Governor Sani questioned the political credibility of some of the coalition’s members, stating:
“Most of the people speaking today, where were they when we were in the trenches fighting for democracy, justice, good governance, and the rule of law? They didn’t know anything about it.”
The remark appeared to be a veiled response to Nasir El-Rufai, who recently criticised President Tinubu’s administration and expressed doubt over his re-election chances.
El-Rufai had said that the APC-led government had brought “untold suffering” to Nigerians and argued that the ruling party had lost public trust.
However, Governor Sani insisted that Tinubu remains politically unshaken, pointing to his history of leadership and resilience, especially during Nigeria’s democratic struggles.
With political tensions rising and realignments forming ahead of 2027, the emergence of ADA and the statements from both Sani and El-Rufai signal the beginning of what is likely to be a fierce political season.
