Political tension continues to rise in Ablekuma North as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rejects calls for a parliamentary election rerun, claiming to have won the seat with clear evidence.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, made the declaration during a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Kodua insisted that their parliamentary candidate, Akua Afriyie, emerged victorious and urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to follow a court directive by completing the collation process and declaring her the MP-elect.
“We have our undeniable evidence to clearly show that we won the Ablekuma North parliamentary election,” he stated.
The party’s stance comes ahead of the EC’s plan to rerun polls in 19 polling stations across the constituency on Friday, July 11.
The rerun is an effort to resolve disputes surrounding the final results, which have left the constituency without an officially declared Member of Parliament.
According to Kodua, the National Executive Committee of the NPP has resolved not to yield to pressure for a rerun, maintaining that any attempt to overturn the result would be rejected.
The contested seat has been the subject of legal challenges and tension as both political observers and constituents await a resolution.
Meanwhile, the EC maintains that the rerun is a necessary step to address the impasse and deliver a fair outcome.
The NPP, however, remains adamant that the results should be upheld without further delay.
