A man identified as Allen Wogu has accused Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of fabricating details about his student life at the University of Port Harcourt.

This comes after Wike, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, claimed that he drove a Mercedes Benz throughout his time in university and that his father was a general manager of several companies.

In a viral post shared on the social media platform X by prominent human rights lawyer, Chidi Odinkalu, a man identified as Allen Wogu challenged Wike’s recent claim that he drove a Mercedes Benz while in university.

The which has since gone viral on social media, Wogu — who says he was a classmate of Wike between 1986 and 1990 — described the minister’s claims as false and misleading.

The post read:

“The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom,” Wogu wrote in a post shared by prominent lawyer and human rights activist Chidi Odinkalu on X (formerly Twitter).

“I wonder how someone who has classmates who, by God’s grace, are still alive would come on national television and claim he was driving a Mercedes Benz car between 1986 and 1990 at the University of Port Harcourt, where he studied Political Science/Education.”

He further added;

“Jesus Christ, please have mercy. This guy wore sandals with buckles and never rode even a bicycle throughout our four-year sojourn. I have over 4,000 witnesses. So this is how he has been lying? Too shocked here.”

Wike has not responded publicly to the accusations, but the allegations have reignited debate over the authenticity of public officials’ personal histories and the need for truth in leadership.

The former Rivers State governor, known for his controversial statements, is yet to address the viral post or provide additional context for his remarks during the TV interview.
