Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reacted strongly to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, referencing the tragic #EndSARS protest at Lekki Toll Gate in October 2020.
In a now-viral video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Portable expressed no sympathy over the passing of the former Nigerian leader, blaming him for the brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters.
“The man that said they should shoot our people at the Lekki Toll Gate is dead,” Portable said in the clip. “Let us do good. May he die again in heaven,” he added, sparking both outrage and support among viewers online.
Portable’s comments reignited the emotional wounds of the #EndSARS movement, during which several protesters were reportedly killed at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020, following a military intervention. The Nigerian government has continued to deny any wrongdoing despite local and international condemnation.
