By-election: PDP Rejects Results In Kaduna, Gives Reasons

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has rejected the result of the just-concluded August 16, by-elections in Basawa, Zaria Kewaye, and Chikun/Kajuru constituencies.

The state chairman of the party, Edward Masha in a statement released on Monday said the election process in Kaduna was marred by intimidation, vote buying, and state-sponsored manipulation.

Masha also described the election as a sham while vowing that the party would seek redress through the legal process after its consultations with candidates and stakeholders of the PDP.

Decrying the alleged abduction of the party’s candidate, Masha accused the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Kaduna State governor Uba Sani of desperation.

He said, “The abduction of our candidate and members of our campaign committee for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, the seizure of funds meant for logistics and agents’ allowances, and the massive vote buying carried out in public glare all point to the desperation of the failed Uba Sani-led government.

“If this undemocratic trend continues, the problem of voter apathy will only worsen and reach a dangerous peak by 2027,” Masha stated.

He also commended the PDP members and supporters for their diligence and committment to the party throughout the electioneering process.

“We urge the good people of Kaduna State to continue trusting and supporting the PDP. Together, we will restore dignity, fairness, and genuine democracy in our dear state,” Masha said.
