The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Governor, His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Kano Governor’s Lodge, in a move aimed at strengthening party unity and consolidating the APC’s presence in the state.

In a statement following the visit, Senator Basiru described the meeting as a strategic engagement to explore collaborative pathways for deepening the APC’s influence in Kano State.

“I paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Governor, H.E. Abba Yusuf, at the Kano Governor’s Lodge. The visit afforded us the opportunity of discussing how to further strengthen and unify our party, the APC, in Kano State and further the support base of the Governor,” he said.

The visit comes weeks after Governor Yusuf’s high-profile defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the APC in late January 2026, a development that has reshaped political alignments in Nigeria’s most populous state.

Political analysts view the courtesy visit as a signal of mutual cooperation between the state executive and the APC leadership, particularly in the lead-up to 2027 general elections.

Supporters of the party in Kano welcomed the engagement, expressing optimism that strengthened party unity will translate into enhanced governance and political stability in the state.
