Police Detective Shot Dead At Mother’s Home In Oakford

A female police detective was shot and killed at her mother’s residence in Oakford, KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received reports of an SAPS official under attack just before 14h00.

Upon arrival, first responders found the detective lying between the kitchen and living room with multiple gunshot wounds. Several 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.

According to witnesses, the detective arrived at the property in a white BMW 320D and was offloading food when two unidentified males followed her inside. Multiple shots were fired before the suspects fled in a white SUV.

The victim’s elderly mother was inside the home at the time but was unable to provide information due to a medical condition.

A domestic worker who was in the bathroom discovered the body after hearing gunshots.

Court documents were found in the deceased’s vehicle. The detective was reportedly stationed at Point SAPS in Durban, though this could not be immediately confirmed.

The motive for the shooting has not been established.
