Agriculture Minister Senator Abubakar Kyari says government policies have reduced prices of essential food commodities by 50 per cent nationwide.

Speaking at the 2026 Ministerial Stakeholders’ Retreat in Abuja, he noted that the drop contrasts with previous years when food prices skyrocketed, stressing that the government’s efforts have also attracted millions of dollars in agribusiness investments.

Kyari added, “This support has not only boosted agricultural productivity but also created jobs, increased incomes, and enhanced the overall competitiveness of Nigeria’s agribusiness sector, paving the way for a more prosperous and sustainable agricultural future.”

He highlighted the development of key value chains such as rice, maize, cassava, cocoa, yam, and oil palm, helping farmers move from subsistence farming to thriving agribusinesses.
