The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah has claimed it confronted an attempted infiltration by Israeli forces near the Lebanon–Syria border early Monday.

In an official statement, Hezbollah said its fighters detected the movement of about 15 helicopters belonging to the Israeli army approaching from the direction of Syria.

According to the statement, the helicopters were seen flying over villages along Lebanon’s eastern mountain range, including Janta, Yahfouf, Nabi Sheet, Arsal and Ras Baalbek.

Hezbollah said some of the aircraft attempted to land troops in the Sarghaya plain, after which the fighters claimed they engaged the aircraft and the infiltrating force with what they described as “appropriate weapons.”
Claim of Ongoing Confrontation
The group said the confrontation began at 00:10 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, adding that the clash was ongoing at the time the statement was issued.

Hezbollah also referenced what it described as a failed Israeli landing attempt two days earlier in the town of Nabi Sheet.

Religious Justification Cited
In the statement, the group cited a Quranic verse saying those who are oppressed have been permitted to fight and that divine support would come to those driven from their homes unjustly.

There has been no immediate confirmation from the Israel Defense Forces regarding the alleged operation or the reported confrontation.

The development comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah along Lebanon’s eastern frontier, raising concerns about a broader escalation in the region.
