UK Woman Jailed For 4½ Years After Making False Rape Allegations Against 10 Men She Met On Dating Apps

A 31-year-old woman in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after admitting she falsely accused 10 men she met through dating apps of rape.

Stacey Sharples, from Farnworth in Bolton, pleaded guilty at Bolton Crown Court to 10 counts of perverting the course of justice.

Her fabricated claims triggered several police investigations, arrests and forensic examinations, costing taxpayers an estimated £120,000. None of the men she accused were ultimately charged.

At one point, Sharples even bragged to one of the victims after police dropped the case, telling him: “I’ve got away with it. Yet again.”

Greater Manchester Police said the decision to investigate Sharples as a suspect was unusual but necessary.

Detective Sergeant Steven Gilliland explained that officers initially treated the allegations seriously and carried out full investigations, including making arrests, before evidence eventually showed the claims were false.

Several of the wrongly accused men described how the allegations severely affected their lives.

One victim, Reece Lockett, said the accusation destroyed his reputation and relationships, explaining that his parents disowned him, his partner left, and he lost his job while living in fear and constant anxiety.

Another victim, Connor Austen, said the false claim cost him his home, relationship and career, adding that the ordeal ruined seven years of his life.See more, details. .
