MK Party Delegation Led by Zuma Pays Respects to Malema Family in Polokwane
uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party national officials and members joined former President Jacob Zuma on Friday to pay respects and offer support to the family of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema.
The visit to the Malema family home in Polokwane, followed the passing of Malema’s maternal aunt, Mme Martha Motlanalo Malema, who died on 16 March 2026 at the age of 54.
A dedicated community member and long-time EFF supporter in Seshego’s Ward 13, she is remembered for her unwavering love for her family and her active role in local political mobilisation.
Zuma arrived at the residence at accompanied by senior MK Party figures, members of the presidential task team and MPs. The delegation’s presence was described by the MK Party itself as “a powerful display of unity among the progressive forces.”
The gesture comes despite the historical rivalry between the MK Party and the EFF, both of which position themselves as champions of the poor and working class. EFF officials had earlier visited the home to offer condolences, and Mme Malema’s funeral is scheduled for Sunday, 22 March 2026.
Political observers have welcomed the visit as a rare moment of humanity transcending party lines in South Africa’s often fractious opposition landscape. As tributes continue to flow, the occasion underscores how personal loss can momentarily bridge ideological divides.
