Suspected terrorists have destroyed a major bridge linking several communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, leaving residents stranded and heightening fears of fresh attacks.

According to Wasiu Abiodun, the attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, around 2:00 a.m., when explosive devices were used to bomb the structure along Luma Road, connecting Luma, Babanna, and Agwara communities.

Police said the incident was reported later that morning, with initial findings indicating the attackers targeted the bridge to disrupt ongoing security operations in the area.

The d+struction has severely affected movement between the affected communities, cutting off access for villagers and commuters.

Authorities described the act as part of attempts by armed groups to destabilize the region, which has witnessed a surge in v+olent attacks in recent months.

Security agencies have since intensified clearance operations around the area, with continuous monitoring underway to prevent further incidents and restore order.

However, officials have not confirmed if there were any casualties from the explosion. Images and footage from the scene show the bridge in ruins, forcing residents to seek alternative, often unsafe routes.

The latest attack adds to growing concerns in Niger State, especially in Borgu LGA, where communities have repeatedly come under assault.

Earlier this year, dozens of people were killed in a market attack in the area, further deepening anxiety among locals.
