English Football Association (EFA) Move To Punish Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, For Displaying ‘God Is The Greatest’ During Goal Celebration
Taiwo Awoniyi could be in trouble with the English Football Association following his goal celebration during Nottingham Forest F.C.’s 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur F.C. on Sunday.
The striker came off the bench to score Forest’s third goal, helping his side secure a crucial victory in their battle to avoid relegation. However, his celebration has sparked controversy.
Awoniyi removed his shirt after scoring—an act that earned him an automatic yellow card, but also revealed a religious message underneath reading “God is the greatest.”
Under Law 4 of the International Football Association Board, players are not allowed to display political, religious, or personal messages on their clothing or undergarments.
The rule clearly states that such actions can attract further sanctions beyond an in-game booking. The regulation adds that offenders may face disciplinary action from competition organisers, national associations, or even FIFA.
As a result, Awoniyi could now be subject to additional punishment despite his match-winning contribution.See more, details. .
