President cites major military objectives already met and progress toward long-term peace deal

President Donald J. Trump announced that the United States has agreed to suspend planned military strikes against Iran for two weeks, following direct conversations with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Trump said the temporary halt is conditional on Iran agreeing to the “COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING” of the Strait of Hormuz and described the move as a “double-sided CEASEFIRE.”

Here is the full statement released by the President:

“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!
