A heart attack (Myocardial Infarction) often does not come suddenly—it can build up with warning signs that are easy to ignore.

Most Common Symptom: Chest Discomfort

  • Pressure, tightness, squeezing, or heaviness
  • Usually in the center or left side of the chest
  • May last a few minutes or come and go, Not always sharp pain

Pain That Spreads

Discomfort may move to:
Left arm (or both arms)

  • Back
  • Neck
  • Jaw
  • Upper stomach

Many people mistake this for indigestion or muscle pain.

Breathing Changes

  • Shortness of breath
  • Can happen before or during chest discomfort
  • May occur even at rest

Other Warning Signs:

  • Sudden cold sweating (without exertion)
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Lightheadedness or dizziness
    Unusual or extreme fatigue
