Men Are Naturally Polygamous, Monogamy Is Cultural — Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide and social commentator, Reno Omokri, has stirred another round of controversy over marriage and sexuality, insisting that men are by nature polygamous and that monogamy is a cultural imposition rather than a divine or natural order.
Writing on his official X handle, Omokri cited health research and religious texts to argue that polygamy aligns both with human biology and with African cultural traditions.
According to him, global studies show significant disparities in prostate cancer prevalence: “One out of every eight White males in America and the United Kingdom will have prostate cancer, while one out of four Black men will develop it. Asians are the least likely, with a probability of one in thirteen,” he noted, suggesting that highly polygamous regions such as the Middle East, North Africa, and West Africa record lower prostate cancer incidents.
Although admitting he is married to only one wife, Omokri maintained that monogamy requires discipline because it runs against male nature. “Men are by nature polygamous. It takes discipline to be monogamous. The Western world also practices polygamy, but through serial monogamy—marrying, divorcing, and remarrying,” he wrote.
Citing a Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health study, Omokri claimed frequent sexual intercourse significantly reduces prostate cancer risks, describing this as evidence in favor of polygamy. “The best and most natural way to reduce prostate cancer is to have sexual intercourse at least twenty times a month with faithful partners. That is essentially polygamy,” he argued.
On the religious front, Omokri insisted there is no biblical prohibition against polygamy except for bishops, deacons, and elders, referencing 1 Timothy 3:2, 1 Timothy 3:12, and Titus 1:6. He cited biblical figures such as Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, and Elkanah as examples of polygamists whom Scripture does not condemn.
“European Christendom forbids polygamy, not Christianity. There is no verse mandating one man, one wife. What Paul specified for church leaders only reinforces that polygamy was the general norm,” Omokri wrote.
He further argued that Western cultural conditioning has influenced many African Christians to wrongly view polygamy as immoral. “If men and women are honest, they will accept that very few men are able to be sexually faithful to one woman,” he added.
Omokri concluded that polygamy, when practiced within cultural and religious frameworks, is not only natural but beneficial to health and society.
