Switzerland Rejects U.S. Military Overflight Requests Linked to Iran Conflict
The government of Switzerland has rejected two requests from the United States military to use its airspace for operations connected to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
Swiss authorities said the decision was based on the country’s long-standing neutrality laws and international legal obligations.
According to officials, the rejected requests involved reconnaissance flights scheduled for March 15 that were linked to military activities connected to the war in the Middle East.
The Swiss government stressed that its neutrality policy prohibits allowing military overflights by parties actively involved in an armed conflict.
However, authorities clarified that not all U.S. flights were denied.
Switzerland approved other American flights that were not directly connected to military operations, including a maintenance flight and two transport aircraft.
Switzerland has maintained a policy of armed neutrality for decades, often restricting the use of its airspace or territory for military activities involving states engaged in active conflicts.See more, details. .
