Serie A: Napoli Set To Sign Bundesliga Midfielder
Share Story:

Last week, Napoli got their title defence off to the perfect start away to Sassuolo.

Serie A player of the year for 24/25 Scott McTominay opened the scoring in the first half.

Before debutant Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick went past everyone and into the back of the net.

From there, they saw the game out perfectly to record a two goal victory with a clean sheet on the road.

It looks like things are going to get even better.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli are set to resign Elif Elmas on loan from RB Leipzig with an option to buy.

He reports that the player only wanted Napoli ahead of other options.

The Macedonian midfielder was previously at the club for four 1/2 years, before leaving for Leipzig in January 2024.

During the 22/23 title win, Elmas featured in 36 games, providing six goals and three assists in 14 starts.

Having a cult hero back at the club alongside the high profile signing of De Bruyne seriously improves Napoli’s depth.

This is especially important with Frank Anguissa off to the AFCON with Cameroon in December.

With Napoli playing two games a week this season rather than once like last season, they will need the added strength in depth.

To bring in Elmas on a loan with an option to buy feels very smart business indeed. Low risk, high reward.

Although there was talk of Antonio Conte leaving the club in the days that followed the title win, the vibes currently feel positive.
