The protesters accused Abdullahi Rogo, Director-General of protocol in the Kano government, of allegedly diverting ₦6.5 billion.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Abdullahi Muhammed, chairman of the group, said the protest was to show solidarity with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
He urged the anti-graft agencies to “resist political interference and pursue the ongoing cases to their logical conclusion.”
The coalition also called on the Kano House of Assembly to launch an independent probe, while appealing to the judiciary for impartial rulings in all corruption-related cases.
He stated: “We stand united because corruption is killing Kano. Public trust has been betrayed, billions have been siphoned, and the people continue to suffer while a few individuals enrich themselves.”
The groups alleged that between 2023 and 2025, Kano received over ₦445 billion in federal allocations, excluding internally generated revenue, yet hospitals remain unequipped, schools are crumbling, and water is scarce.
They listed several scandals, including diversion of federal government palliatives, multi-billion naira contracts for drugs that were not delivered, inflated agricultural projects, diversion of funds meant for rural women, and shoddy road contracts worth over ₦4 billion.
The groups said relief materials were also hoarded in private warehouses belonging to government officials, rebranded and sold for profit.
