Speculation has mounted over claims that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has secretly deployed Israeli-made radar systems in Somalia’s Puntland region to monitor potential threats from Yemen. International media reports, citing satellite imagery and defense analysts, allege that the UAE installed the ELM-2084 radar system—a component of Israel’s Iron Dome defense shield—near Bosaso Airport in Puntland. The advanced radar is said to be capable of detecting missiles, drones, and other aerial threats, reportedly positioned to monitor attacks by Houthi rebels targeting UAE and Israeli-linked assets.

The allegations gained traction after publications such as Defence Security Asia and Press TV claimed the UAE was bolstering regional intelligence sharing with Israel.

Puntland Reacts

In response, Puntland’s Minister of Information, Mohamud Aideed Dirir, categorically denied the reports. He described them as “fabricated propaganda” designed to discredit Puntland’s administration.
