EXCLUSIVE: Wike Camp Insists PDP Convention Cannot Hold, Warns Party Risks 2027 Without Candidates

Uncertainty continues to trail the November 15 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, insist the gathering cannot hold unless outstanding disputes over state and zonal congresses are resolved.. The group, which met in Abuja last Monday, a day before the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, said a credible national convention must be built on transparency, fairness, inclusivity, and strict adherence to the rule of law.

“We call on the National Working Committee (NWC) to urgently conduct fresh, transparent and inclusive congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra states in line with existing court judgements,” the group demanded, stressing the need for a fresh and legitimate South-East zonal congress.

While PDP leaders at the NEC meeting maintained that no individual or faction would be allowed to hold the party to ransom, Wike’s allies warned that rushing into the convention without addressing the issues could prove disastrous.

A former governor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, cited past cases where parties lost electoral victories due to flawed primaries.
