HURIWA: Terrorists, Bandits Have Intensified War On Nigerians

The group in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, condemned the fresh wave of killings, stressing that the figures add to the over 65,000 lives already lost to terrorism, banditry, and insurgency across Nigeria in the past decade.

“These simultaneous deadly attacks by Boko Haram, ISWAP, bandits and kidnappers represent the intensification of the bloody war being waged relentlessly by daredevil armed non-state actors against Nigerians,” Onwubiko declared.

“The pride of any nation is continuously promoted when it becomes a regular feature of the armed forces that they always conquer and vanquish terrorists. Our security agencies must dominate the war environment at all times.”

The rights group pointed to the attack on Darul Jama, a village in Borno State where at least 55 people were massacred on Friday night. Residents reported that fighters stormed the area on motorbikes, shooting indiscriminately and burning homes. Babagana Ibrahim, a commander of a government-aligned militia, confirmed that six soldiers were among the dead.

HURIWA also acknowledged the resilience of local communities in Sokoto State who launched counterattacks against bandits in Shagari and Bimasa.

“In Bimasa, residents killed several bandits, retrieved stolen animals, and even captured one suspect alive. The suspect was later paraded in the village,” the statement quoted a source.

The group praised this bravery but emphasized that communities should not be left to defend themselves unaided.

Similarly, in Katsina State, seven people were reportedly killed in Magajin Wando village in Dandume Local Government Area.
