Trump’s directive, disclosed in a brief statement on Tuesday, signals Washington’s continued strategic interest in the Gulf state despite the diplomatic fallout from the Israeli strike that targeted Hamas negotiators in the Qatari capital.

“I have directed Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to finalize the Defense Cooperation Agreement with Qatar,” Trump declared.

The agreement, if signed, would deepen military and defense ties between Washington and Doha, strengthening Qatar’s role as a key U.S. ally in the region.
