Ondopress News reports that the Ondo State Government has announced the return of the iconic Mare Festival in Idanre, years after it was suspended. The cultural and tourism event is scheduled to hold in December 2025.
The festival, once a major attraction for tourists and a rallying point for community pride, is being revived under the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Afolabi Adesoji, said the decision to restore the Mare Festival aligns with the governor’s vision of repositioning tourism as a key driver of economic growth, youth empowerment, and cultural renaissance in the state.
He assured that the 2025 edition would not only showcase Idanre’s rich cultural heritage but also stimulate local businesses and create opportunities for artisans, performers, and entrepreneurs.
The Mare Festival is expected to attract both local and international visitors, re-establishing Idanre as a hub for culture and tourism in Nigeria.
